Spring 2013 Fashion Trend Report
After Fall's more-is-more opulence, the industry reversed itself for Spring
It doesn't get any more back-to-basics than black and white, which has quickly emerged as one of the season's biggest themes. However, it doesn't stop there. Here are trends you'll be buying into in the coming months: the power suit, transparency with peekaboo veiling, new riffs on the kimono, multi-layers of assorted textures and prints and deep frills of couture ruffles.
BLACK & WHITE
Seen at NARCISCO RODRIGUEZ, back-to-basics black and white looks right after seasons of brights, prints, and over-the-top embellishment.
THE POWER SUIT
From the boardroom to Le Bain, the power suit is Spring's power player. CoSTUME NATIONAL went the asymmetrical route defining the modern alpha female.
TRANSPARANCY
ROBERTO CAVALLI, among others, adopted new transparency measures, using featherweight, sheer materials like silk chiffon, organza, and mousseline.
FAR EAST
EMILIO PUCCI kicked off the season's Far East trend with new takes on the traditional kimono, along with origami-detailed duchesse satin numbers.
MULTI-LAYERED
Any which way you slice it, Spring's message was multilayered, courtesy of THAKOON mashups of patterns and textures.
DEEP FRILLS
Designers reclaimed the ruffle this season: Deep frills edged necklines at GIVENCHY.
