Taking High Fashion To The Masses
Introducing the 'Designer' to mainstream America
In 2003, designer Isaac Mizrahi revolutionized the industry by teaming with Target to launch a diffusion line of chic and stylish clothing and accessories for women. The line was an enormous hit, and soon spread to cover accessories, bedding, house wares, and even pet products. Over the next five years sales volume tripled to over $300 million and introduced the designer to mainstream America.
This famous collaboration has since inspired designers to embrace the affordable diffusion trend. Taking high-fashion to the masses has sparked awareness impacting a new generation of trend-setters.
Missoni’s line for Target that launched this September created so much excitement that the overwhelming demand from shoppers online resulted in the crash of Target’s website. The massive 400 piece collection included everything but the kitchen sink, from bicycles to kitchenware.
Next on Target’s designer collaboration list, set to release his collection in mid-February, is Jason Wu. This young designer caught the attention of a nation after Michelle Obama wore his wispy white gown for the President’s Inaugural Ball.
Vera Wang, notorious for natural talent as a bridal wear designer, has expanded her collection to include ready-to-wear, footwear, eye wear, fragrance, china and crystal, silver and gifts, bedding, mattresses, fine papers, luggage and hospitality. In 2007, she combined forces with Kohl’s to bring her modern sense of style to millions of American women through her Simply Vera by Vera Wang collection of jewelry, clothes, bedding and footwear.
As the youngest winner of the Emmy-nominated competition series “Project Runway,” Christian Siriano shows a full collection every season at New York Fashion Week. Christian injects his trademark “fierce” style into the runway-inspired line he designs for Payless ShoeSource. His coveted Gold Collection is a limited, ultra chic runway collection designed for lovers of high-fashion.
Joining Christian Siriano as one of Payless’ collaborators, is Lela Rose. She has produced a beautifully detailed collection earning her a following of admirers. Her designs are founded on a clear vision to create classic silhouettes with a whimsical twist.
Known for her modern and ageless aesthetic, Nicole Miller has translated her elements of design with her own affordable diffusion. The designer’s line, Nicole by Nicole Miller for JCPenney, is as excellent as her couture inspiration with bold prints and comfortably flattering designs. Another collection specific to JCPenney is the line, I Love Ronson. Charlotte Ronson’s designs her collection of unique pieces. She adds her signature feminine touch with vintage appeal to create effortlessly chic, downtown style.
